Of lately
the present SDF govt. in its bit to deflect public
attention from being focused to its policies and
programs which are ridden with rampant corruption and
mismanagement, has made Tourism its watch word in Sikkim.
Forcibly acquiring the lands from the farmers on the one
hand and parceling out the state's assets and heritages
to the outsiders on the other, in the name of tourism.
This has created a high drama within state's policy
framing intentions. Along with this, the present govt.
is also making tall claims of having spent considerable
amount of money in the tourism sector. No one denies the
fact that Sikkim by virtue of its unruffled natural
beauty and rich biodiversity has the potential to become
world's ultimate tourist destination. However, if the
state is to excel in this regard it is not the outsiders
but the local people who must be well equipped showing
its preparedness to make available all basic amenities
for the domestic as well as the international tourists.
In this respect the management of hotels is a prime
venture where our local people can be engaged if the
govt. sincerely encourages them to take up this
profession which is a profitable tertiary sector.
However,
today the moot question that is being faced by every
individual in Sikkim who takes keen interest in the
sphere of tourism is, "Is the present govt. sincere
about encouraging the local people of Sikkim in
this enterprise or they are just being an agency for
parceling away all our state assets and heritages to the
outside companies and private groups for reasons only
known to them .’
The
present government's sinister design to debar the
local individuals from taking hotel business is revealed
through the following documents availed with the use of
RTI.
